Marks out and cuts every joint on the Tegalsari. The machines take out the waste; the shoulders and fit are done by hand. He dry-fits every frame before it is glued.

Wayan Sudarma
“Wayan runs the back of his hand across every surface before the first coat.”
Sands each chair through to 240 grit, runs the smoking tent and applies the oil. If a surface isn’t right under the raking lamp it goes back a grit.

Komang Ayu
“Komang cuts linen along the thread so the weave runs straight across the seat.”
Builds the drop-in seat frames, cuts and fits the linen and packs every piece for delivery. She keeps an offcut of every linen batch pinned to the wall.
